Santa Cruz RULES AND REGULATIONS SPECIFIC TO THE RESERVED AREA OF Rancho del Oso SP/Waddell SB
Located on Highway 1, north of Santa Cruz, these State Park Units offer a great spectacle of majestic redwood groves, unspoiled native pine and hardwood forests, nature trails, marvelous open meadows, stream, marsh, sandy beach and rocky tidepools. All of these unique and unspoiled wonders of environmental resources provide both educational and recreational opportunities.
Rancho del Oso features natural and cultural history of the area where interpretive programs are being offered by the Nature and History Center on scheduled basis. Advance reservation for camping is required: Horse Camps – (831) 425-1218; Trail Camps – (831) 338-8861. Because of the potential damage to resources, permit is necessary for all Special Events in the park which can be discussed with the Special Events coordinator. The panoramic and windy stretch of Waddell Beach, on the other hand, is very popular destination for windsurfing and hang gliding. Organized sport events and competitions are approved on a case by case basis. The park, however, is open to other types of Special Events that require permit.
Parking is available on first come first served basis. Normal day-use fee is collected at the entrance station. No double parking allowed. Decorations may be used in the immediate area. Staples, nails or wire may not be used to attach items to trees. Please make sure they are easily removable and do not leave a trace. All decorations must be removed before your group leaves the park. Light acoustic music is permitted; amplification systems, disc jockeys, etc. are not permitted. Electric outlet is generally not available. Rice, birdseed, confetti, balloons and the like are not allowed to be thrown in the park. These items are non-native and can affect the plants and wildlife in the park. All trash must be deposited into receptacles provided in the park. If your group needs additional trashcans, advance notice must be made in written request. If your group requires additional restroom facilities, you may rent or arrange for portable restrooms for an outside vendor but be advised that park does not have the equipment to pump chemical toilets on a regular basis. The parks officially open at 8:00am and closes around sunset. ALCOHOL RESTRICTIONS are strictly enforced.
